What is NAP consistency?

NAP consistency means writing the business name, address and phone number exactly the same on the site, the Google Business Profile and other listings.

Open this screen in the panel

NAP stands for Name, Address and Phone. NAP consistency means these three are written the same way on your site, your Google Business Profile, map services, directory sites and social profiles. Small differences like "St." versus "Street" are fine; an old address, a different phone number or a different business name are not.

Why it matters

  • Google and AI assistants recognise a business by matching information from different sources. Conflicting records weaken trust and local SEO rankings.
  • If an old address survives in a directory after you move, customers go to the wrong place and assistants may repeat the outdated details.
  • It's a common cause of duplicate map listings for the same business.

Where you see it in SEOAsist

SEOAsist doesn't scan external directories to compare your NAP details. You check the on-site side of NAP here:

  • The Contact page and Organization schema checks on Content & AI → E-E-A-T; the hint asks for name, address and phone in Organization or LocalBusiness JSON-LD.
  • GEO · AI Visibility → Brand check shows what assistants say about your brand. One of the suggested fixes is Organization / LocalBusiness schema with the same NAP details on every page.
  • Local SEO → Business profile shows the Google Business Profile location linked to the site.

More: GEO brand check.

Example

<script type="application/ld+json">
{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@type": "LocalBusiness",
  "name": "Example Furniture",
  "telephone": "+90 212 555 01 01",
  "address": {
    "@type": "PostalAddress",
    "streetAddress": "Workshop St. No: 5",
    "addressLocality": "Kadikoy",
    "addressRegion": "Istanbul",
    "addressCountry": "TR"
  }
}
</script>

Common mistakes

  • Updating only the site after a move and forgetting the profiles.
  • Using one call-centre number for every branch and mixing up branch addresses.
  • Writing the business name as an abbreviation in one place and the full legal name in another.
