Connect a Shopify store with a custom app (Admin API)
Create a custom app in Shopify and paste its Admin API access token into the panel to write title/meta rules to your store and publish blog posts.
Open this screen in the panelIf your store runs on Shopify, you can connect it by creating a custom app and pasting its Admin API access token into the panel. After that, exact-path title and meta description rules are written to the SEO fields of your products, pages and collections, and blog posts from the content studio are added to your store's blog as articles.
Prerequisites
- A Shopify admin account that is allowed to develop apps.
- Your store's domain in the form
my-store.myshopify.com. - For blog publishing, at least one blog in the store.
Get an Admin API token
- In Shopify admin, go to Settings → Apps and sales channels → Develop apps and turn on custom app development with "Allow custom app development".
- Click Create an app, give it a name (e.g. SEOAsist) and open Configure Admin API scopes.
- Select these scopes:
read_products,write_products,read_content,write_content,read_online_store_pages. - Click Install app, then reveal and copy the Admin API access token (
shpat_…). Shopify shows it only once.
Connect the panel to your store
- Open the site from Sites and switch to the Fix channels tab.
- In the Shopify card, enter
my-store.myshopify.comin Store domain. - Paste the token starting with
shpat_into Admin API access token. - Click Connect. The panel fetches your store details with the token; on success you see "Shopify connected" and the status turns Connected. The token is stored encrypted.
To change the token later, open Rotate token / reconnect at the bottom of the card, paste the new token and click Connect.
Write SEO rules to the store
- First define a title or meta description Pixel rule with the Exact path match type:
/products/…,/pages/…or/collections/…. - Check the eligible rule count in the Push SEO rules section of the Shopify card.
- Click Push SEO rules. The panel matches products, pages and collections by handle and writes the values to Shopify's SEO metafields (
global.title_tag/global.description_tag). - The notification tells you how many resources were scanned and how many rules were applied.
Only enabled, exact-path title and meta description rules go to Shopify. Other rule types and Path prefix matches are not applied through this channel.
Publish blog posts
In the Content studio, pick Shopify as the Channel for a blog post and publish it. The post is added as an article to the store's first blog, as a draft or live. The title, body, summary, tags, featured image, meta title and meta description go with it.
Verification
- The card shows Connected, together with the store name, domain, Shopify plan and primary language.
- After Push SEO rules, the "last push" date updates.
- In Shopify, the product's search engine listing section shows the new title and description.
FAQ
Why do I get "The store domain must look like my-store.myshopify.com"?
The panel only accepts domains ending in .myshopify.com. Enter the myshopify.com address Shopify gave you, not your custom domain (e.g. www.mystore.com).
What does "Invalid token" mean?
The value you pasted does not look like a custom app Admin API token. The token starts with shpat_; copy the Admin API access token, not the API key or API secret.
I get HTTP 401 or 403 when connecting. What should I do?
The token is invalid or the app lacks the required scopes. Compare the app's Admin API scopes with the list above, reinstall the app and reconnect with the new token through Rotate token / reconnect.
I pushed my rules but it says 0 rules applied. Why?
The rule's path may not exactly match the handle of a product, page or collection in the store, or the rule may use a match type other than exact. Make sure the path looks like /products/handle and the rule is enabled.
Publishing a blog post fails with "the store has no blog". What now?
Your store has no blog yet. Create one in Shopify under Online Store → Blog posts, then publish again.
Does disconnecting remove the SEO fields written to my store?
No. Disconnect only removes the connection; SEO fields already written to the store stay as they are.
