Ads and organic: comparing Google Ads terms with Search Console
Connect a Google Ads account to a site; your search terms are set next to Search Console data with a status per term. The report is read only; nothing changes in your account.
Open this screen in the panelThis report sets the search terms you advertise on next to the same query's organic results. It is on the Expert and Agency plans. SEOAsist makes no changes in your Google Ads account.
Connecting
- Select the site at the top of the page, then open Keywords › Ads and organic.
- Press Connect Google Ads and allow access with a Google user that can open the account. The organization's owner or an admin can do this.
- If several accounts appear, choose the one that belongs to this site. If it sits under a manager account, enter that number too.
The first data arrives within minutes and refreshes daily. The last 30 days are pulled; the report shows the last 28. Disconnect removes the connection and the ad data pulled.
Statuses
| Status | When | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Overlap | You rank in the organic top 3 and also pay for ads | You can test a lower bid with a controlled experiment |
| Possible waste | At least 20 clicks, no conversions, no organic visibility | Check the term and your conversion tracking |
| Weak organic | Ads convert and you are outside the organic top 10 | The term may be a content opportunity |
| Organic rising | The organic rank rose at least 3 places and is in the top 10 | Watch it; in the top 3 it becomes an overlap |
| Watch | No clear signal | Nothing to do for now |
Terms containing the brand name stay out of the report; the count of those left out is shown above the table.
Limits
- A status is not a verdict. When an ad stops, some clicks move to the organic result and some go to a competitor; the share varies by term.
- Whether competitors bid on the same term does not show in this report.
- Organic data comes from Search Console; without it the organic columns stay empty.
- On a site with an Otopilot, a review task opens once a month; it only points at the report.
