What is SEO?
SEO (search engine optimization) is the work of making a site more visible in the unpaid results of search engines like Google.
SEO (search engine optimization) is everything you do so a site shows up higher in search results without paying for ads. It rests on three pillars: technical SEO (pages that are crawlable, fast and indexable), content (pages that genuinely answer what people search for) and authority (links from other sites and brand recognition). Visibility inside AI assistants and AI Overviews (GEO) has now joined the list.
Why it matters
You don't pay per click for visitors from organic results. A page that ranks well can bring traffic for months or years, and users tend to trust organic results more than ads. SEO is never finished, though: sites change and introduce new technical problems, competitors publish content, and search engines update their rules.
Where you see it in SEOAsist
All of SEOAsist exists to automate SEO work. The Overview page brings your sites' SEO score, organic performance and technical health onto one screen. Technical issues live in Technical Audit and keywords in Keywords; content and AI visibility have their own modules. For a tour, read What is SEOAsist?.
Example
An online store ranks 25th for “men's running shoes”. The category page gets a descriptive title and original copy, broken internal links are fixed, and a few quality sites link to it. A few months later the page reaches page one and organic clicks grow.
Common mistakes
- Treating SEO as a one-off project; it needs regular crawls and tracking.
- Focusing on stuffing keywords while ignoring technical problems and user experience.
- Expecting results within days; most changes take weeks to show.
- Treating rankings as the only success metric; clicks and conversions are the real goal.
