Add a site, choose its language and market, run the first crawl
Step by step: add a new site to your portfolio, set the location and language used for rank tracking, and start its first crawl.
Open this screen in the panelEvery site is tracked separately in SEOAsist: it has its own crawl, Google connections, ranking settings and channels. You usually add your first site in the setup wizard; for the next ones you use the Sites page.
Before you start
- You need the Owner, Admin or Member role; viewers can't add sites.
- Your plan's site allowance must not be used up. If it is, you'll see a “Plan limit reached” warning: Plans and quotas.
Add the site
- Open Sites and press New site at the top right.
- In Name, type the name you want to see in the panel.
- In URL, enter the full address of the site, including
https://. - Press Add. You'll see “Site added.” and the site appears in the list.
If you try to add the same domain twice, you get “… is already added.”
Set the language and market
Language and market decide which country and language keyword rankings, competitors and content suggestions are calculated for. In the wizard you pick them from the Language and market list. The New site dialog has no such field; the site is added with Türkiye, Turkish and desktop by default.
- In the list, press Edit on the site's row.
- On the General tab, scroll to the SERP tracking section of the General settings card.
- Pick the Location. The Language follows the location automatically; change it by hand if needed.
- Choose Desktop or Mobile as the Device.
- Press Save.
If your site serves several countries, pick the market that brings you the most traffic. Rank checks run for one location and language.
Start the first crawl
A site added in the wizard is crawled right away. For a site added with the New site dialog, you start the crawl yourself.
- Press Crawl on the site's row in the Sites list, or Crawl now on the site page.
- You get “Crawl queued”. The top bar shows the crawl's progress.
- When it finishes, technical issues land on Technical Audit, the health score is updated and the SEO analysis runs on its own.
In the same General settings card, Crawl page limit sets the maximum number of pages visited per crawl; the server-side cap is shown under the field. If Weekly automatic crawl enabled is ticked, the site is re-crawled every week.
When your monthly crawl quota is used up, no new crawl starts; in that case you may also see “A crawl is already in progress”. Check your usage in the Usage table on the Billing page.
Next steps
- Connect Google data on the Search Console & GA4 tab: Connecting Search Console.
- Choose how fixes reach the site on the Fix channels tab: WordPress, Shopify or the Site API.
Check that it worked
- The site appears in the Sites list and the Last crawl column is filled in.
- The General settings description on the site page shows the health score and the last crawl time.
FAQ
I get “Could not start crawl”. Why?
Either you don't have permission or crawling is disabled for the site. Sites with Weekly automatic crawl enabled switched off are not crawled manually either; tick the box and save. If it keeps happening, see Crawl problems.
What happens if I delete a site?
The site and its crawls, issues and settings are removed from the organization. You can add the same domain again later, but the history does not come back.
