Connect Google Search Console, verify and unlink properties

Connect your Google account, auto-match Search Console properties to your sites, verify a new property by DNS, HTML tag/file or Cloudflare when none exists, and unlink when needed.

Open this screen in the panel

The Search Console connection brings in clicks, impressions, queries and rankings. Overview metrics, Keywords and content suggestions all rely on it. Each site is linked to one Search Console property, and if a site has none yet, SEOAsist can verify it and add it to Search Console for you.

Prerequisites

  • A Google account with access to the property in Search Console.
  • At least one site in the panel: Sites.
  • To create a new property, the Google account needs write permission. Read access is enough to link an existing property.

Connect your Google account

  1. Open Integrations and click Connect on the Google (Search Console · GA4 · Business Profile) card.
  2. Click Connect Google account and tick every box Google asks for on the consent screen.
  3. Back in the panel, the card switches to Connected and the account appears in the list. Expand the list under the account to see the Search Console properties it can access.

If the account shows read + property management, you are all set. If it shows read only · renew permissions to create properties, you can link existing properties but cannot create new ones.

tip

Properties spread across several Google accounts? Add another one with Connect another account / renew permissions. The same button also renews missing permissions on an account you already connected.

Auto-match properties to your sites

  1. On the Sites page, click Auto-match at the top.
  2. For every site that is not linked yet, SEOAsist looks through the properties of your connected accounts. It prefers the domain property (sc-domain:example.com), then a URL-prefix property with the same address, then any property whose hostname (without www) matches the domain.
  3. Each matched site starts fetching the last 90 days of data in the background. Sites without a match are listed in the notification as “Unmatched: …”.

To link a single site by hand, pick the property in the Search Console property column of the Sites table and click Save. The same picker is on the site's Search Console & GA4 tab.

Add and verify a new property

If the site has no matching property, the verification options appear right away. If a property is already linked, open Add / verify a new Search Console property on the site's Search Console & GA4 tab.

  1. If you have more than one Google account, choose the account.
  2. Choose a verification method:
    • Meta tag (URL property): a tag added to the <head> of the home page.
    • HTML file (URL property): a verification file placed at the site root.
    • DNS TXT (domain property): a TXT record on the domain (host: @).
    • Cloudflare DNS · automatic (domain property): only shown when Cloudflare is connected.
  3. Click Create in Search Console. SEOAsist gets a verification token from Google and shows an “Awaiting verification” box.
  4. Copy the tag, file details or TXT value and add it to your site.
  5. Once it is live, click Verify and add. The property is added to Search Console, linked to the site, and the 90-day data fetch starts.

Picked the wrong method? Cancel with the cross icon on the pending box and start again.

note

DNS changes can take 5-30 minutes to propagate. If you get “Google could not find the token”, wait a little and click Verify and add again.

One-click verification with Cloudflare

If the site's DNS is on Cloudflare, first open the Cloudflare card on Integrations and save an API token. Create it in Cloudflare under My Profile → API Tokens → Create Token with the Edit zone DNS template, scoped to the relevant zones. Then choose Cloudflare DNS · automatic (domain property) and click Verify and add (automatic). SEOAsist writes the TXT record to Cloudflare and asks Google to verify it. If Google has not seen the record yet, you get “Record added, awaiting verification”; click Verify and add again in 1-2 minutes.

  1. On the site's Search Console & GA4 tab, click Unlink.
  2. Confirm in the dialog.

Past data stays; only new data stops coming in. Choosing Not linked in the Sites table's property list and clicking Save does the same.

Check that it works

  • The site's tab shows “Linked property: … · last sync …”.
  • The Last sync column in the Sites table fills in. To refresh right away, click the sync icon on the row; the last 30 days are fetched again.
  • Linked sites are updated automatically every day.

FAQ

Why didn't Auto-match find my site?

None of your connected Google accounts has a property for that domain. Connect an account that has access, or create a new property with the steps above.

What does “The Google account has no write permission” mean?

The account was connected with read-only access. On Integrations, click Connect another account / renew permissions and tick every box on the consent screen. See Google permission problems for details.

Should I create a domain property or a URL property?

If you can edit DNS, create a domain property with DNS TXT or Cloudflare; it covers every subdomain and protocol. Without DNS access, create a URL property with the meta tag or HTML file.

Does unlinking delete the property in Search Console?

No. Only the link inside SEOAsist is removed; the property stays in Google as it is.
