Connect, change or remove Google Analytics 4

How to link a GA4 property to your site, remove the wrong one, or create a brand-new GA4 property from the panel if you don't have one yet.

Open this screen in the panel

The GA4 connection brings in session, user and conversion data. The visibility and traffic goals in SEO analysis are built on this data. Each site gets its own GA4 property.

Prerequisites

  • A Google account must be connected in the panel: Integrations → Google.
  • To create a property, that Google account needs edit permission in Analytics. Read access is enough if you only want to link an existing one.
  1. Open the site from the Sites page and switch to the Search Console & GA4 tab.
  2. In the Google Analytics 4 card, pick your site's property from the list.
  3. Press Save. The last 90 days of data are fetched in the background; this can take a few minutes.

Remove the wrong property

  1. In the same card, press Unlink.
  2. Confirm in the dialog that opens.

Data fetched in the past is not deleted; SEOAsist simply stops fetching new data. You can then pick and link the correct property.

No property yet? Create a new GA4 property

  1. In the card, open the Create a new GA4 property section.
  2. Choose the Google account and the Analytics account, then press Create GA4 property.
  3. SEOAsist creates the property and a web data stream, and gives you the measurement ID starting with G-.
  4. Add the measurement ID to your site: if GitHub is connected, the Add via PR button adds the code for you; otherwise paste the gtag snippet shown into your site's <head>.
warning

If you see “Creating a property needs Analytics edit permission on the Google account”, press Refresh Google permissions and tick Analytics on Google's consent screen.

Verification

  • The card description should read “Linked: properties/… · last sync …”.
  • On the Overview page, the session and conversion cards start filling after the next sync.

FAQ

Why doesn't my property show up in the list?

The list comes back empty if the connected Google account has no access to that property, or if the “Google Analytics Admin API” is disabled in the Google Cloud project. Add an account that has access to the property from the Integrations page.

Technically yes, but both sites will show the same traffic and goal measurements will be wrong. Link each site to its own property.
