AI models: SEOAsist AI, your own keys and the default model
How the SEOAsist AI included in your plan differs from your own provider keys, how to add a key, pick the default model and switch models per action.
Open this screen in the panelEvery AI job in SEOAsist (content suggestions, blog generation, SEO analysis summaries, code-fix PRs, GEO measurement) runs on one of two sources: SEOAsist AI, which is included in your plan, or provider keys you add yourself. You manage both on one screen: Integrations → AI.
SEOAsist AI vs your own keys
| SEOAsist AI (included in your plan) | Your own providers | |
|---|---|---|
| Key | Not needed | Your own API key |
| Limit | Monthly call allowance from your plan | No allowance limit; you pay the provider |
| Model | Picked automatically per task | The model you choose |
SEOAsist AI routes work across three tiers: Fast (titles, meta, short summaries, connection tests, social posts), Standard (suggestions, analysis text, brand, GEO, workspace tasks) and Premium (code-fix PRs, long blog posts). If a tier has no model, the job falls back to the next one.
The monthly allowance depends on your plan:
| Plan | SEOAsist AI calls / month |
|---|---|
| Free | 30 |
| Starter | 100 |
| Pro | 300 |
| Agency | 1,500 |
Only successful calls count, and the counter resets at the start of each month. The SEOAsist AI (included in your plan) card shows what you have used as "… / … calls this month".
Add your own provider key
You need the Owner or Admin role in the organization to add keys or change the default.
- On Integrations → AI, scroll to the Your own providers card.
- Pick the provider: Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI, Google Gemini, xAI (Grok), Perplexity, OpenRouter or Custom (OpenAI-compatible).
- Optionally give it a name (handy if you connect more than one account), then paste the API key.
- If your Anthropic key is not bound to a workspace, also enter the Workspace ID (
wrkspc_…). - A custom endpoint needs a Base URL that ends with
/v1.
- If your Anthropic key is not bound to a workspace, also enter the Workspace ID (
- Click Add. SEOAsist validates the key and fetches the model list automatically.
- On the provider card, click Test to send a small request and confirm the key works.
The provider card also has Fetch models (current list and prices), Key (change the key), Add model (add a model that is not listed, by its id) and Remove. Keys are stored encrypted and used only for this organization.
If you see "Key rejected", the provider is not added. Make sure you copied the key from the provider's console and that the account has usage available. More in AI errors.
Choose the default model
- Open the Default model card at the top of the same page.
- The left column lists SEOAsist AI (included), the right column Your own keys.
- Click a row. SEOAsist AI · Automatic picks the best included model for each task; you can also pin a single included model.
The model you choose comes preselected in every AI menu. The star in the Models table does the same thing. The default model cannot be disabled or deleted; make another model the default first.
Switch the model for a single action
Every screen that uses AI (for example the code fix on Technical Audit or the Content & AI page) has a model menu next to the button. The default model is preselected and marked "default"; the menu shows SEOAsist AI (included) and Your own keys as separate groups. Picking another model applies to that action only.
Models whose Enabled box is cleared in the Models table do not appear in these menus. Click a price to edit it; cost calculation uses this table.
If you explicitly pick one of your own models in the menu, the job runs on that model only. If your default is one of your own models and it fails, SEOAsist AI steps in as a fallback. When you run on SEOAsist AI and the included models fail, the job moves on to your own default model.
What happens when the allowance runs out?
The card then says "This month's allowance is used up" and jobs fall back to your own default model. Without your own key, the action stops with "This month's SEOAsist AI allowance is used up. Add your own key or upgrade the plan." You can get a larger allowance on the Billing page.
Verify
- The Default model card shows "Selected: …" with the model you chose.
- After you run an AI action, the Usage log has a row with the feature, model, tokens and cost. SEOAsist AI calls are labelled "SEOAsist AI" in the model column.
- The Last 30 days spend card shows the cost of your own keys; models with unknown prices are not included.
FAQ
Do I need a key to use SEOAsist AI?
No. SEOAsist AI is included in your plan and needs no key. When its card says "Ready", it is the first option in every AI menu.
The card says "Not in this plan". What now?
Your plan has no SEOAsist AI allowance. Add your own provider key or upgrade the plan.
If I add my own key, is my SEOAsist AI allowance still used?
Jobs run on whatever your default model is. If you make one of your own models the default, SEOAsist AI only stays as a fallback and the allowance is used only when the fallback kicks in.
A model is missing from the list. How do I add it?
Click Fetch models on the provider card. If it is still missing, type its id and click Add model. OpenAI models that require organization verification may not appear in the list.
