AI call failed: allowance, plan and provider credit errors

What to do when AI fixes, content or GEO jobs fail: the included allowance is used up, your own key has no credit, or GEO engines are blocked.

Open this screen in the panel

AI jobs in SEOAsist run on one of two sources. SEOAsist AI is included in your plan and needs no key. Your own providers are keys you add yourself: Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, Grok, OpenRouter or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint. Most errors mean one of these sources can't be used right now.

Symptoms

  • “This month's SEOAsist AI allowance is used up. Add your own key or upgrade the plan.”
  • “SEOAsist AI is not part of this plan. Add your own key or upgrade the plan.”
  • “No AI provider configured (Integrations → AI).”
  • The provider's own error text, e.g. “Your credit balance is too low…” from Anthropic.
  • On the GEO page: “No engine is available…”, or an engine under Engines to query tagged “This month's included AI quota is used up”.

Fix

  1. Open Integrations → AI and check the status on the SEOAsist AI (included in your plan) card: Ready, This month's allowance is used up, Not in this plan or Not enabled yet. The card also shows a “… / … calls this month” counter.
  2. If the allowance is used up, you have two options: upgrade the plan, or add an API key under Your own providers. Jobs on your own key don't count against the allowance.
  3. If your own key reports a credit error (e.g. “credit balance is too low”), top up credit in the provider's dashboard. Then click Test on the provider row to check the key.
  4. To keep working without topping up, pick SEOAsist AI · Automatic under Default model. You can also pick SEOAsist AI in the AI menu where you start the job.
  5. If GEO engines are blocked, check the Engines to query list on the GEO page. A blocked engine has hit the included allowance. Add a search-capable key of your own (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Grok, Perplexity) and turn that engine on.
  6. Start the job again.
note

If you explicitly pick one of your own models in a menu, only that model is tried, and the job stops if it fails. If your own model is just the default and it fails, SEOAsist retries with SEOAsist AI (when allowance is left).

Still not working?

Where can I see which call failed and why?

The Usage log on the AI page lists every call with feature, model, tokens, cost and error. The provider's error text appears there as-is.

When does my allowance reset?

The allowance is monthly and resets at the start of each month. Only successful SEOAsist AI calls count.

What happens to workspace tasks when the allowance runs out?

If you have your own key, tasks switch to it. Without one, they wait. If the workspace's weekly AI budget runs out, tasks move to Waiting for budget and are rescheduled when the new week starts.
